Casburt's History
Casburt Limited has been in existence in one form or another since 1947 when Jack Caswell established a company whose early work was in sheet metal, moving into dust control and drying. This original company undertook much of the pioneering work in ceramic drying, installing 100's of dryers in the 1960's.
In 1966 the company was sold to Slater Fox (Holdings). Jack was retained as Sales Director and his son, David, became Technical Director. Jack retired from the company in 1970 and David became Managing Director.
In 1979 pharmaceuticals took on a greater role with the formation of Casburt Pharmaceutical Equipment and, in 1980 this company moved back into the Caswell family ownership. David became Chairman and Jack came onto the board as non-executive director - a position he held until his death in 1998.
In 1982 expansion plans lead to a relocation to new premises in Spring Garden Road in Longton, creating a modern suite of offices, workshops, storage and testing facilities.
Export sales began to increase and averaged two thirds of turnover in the three years to 1987, leading to the 1988 Queens Award for Export Achievement.
Several years later the Machinery Division was formed, specialising at that time in the procurement and refurbishment of tablet presses and other equipment up to a pre-packaged drug.
In 1994, considerable increase in business lead to a relocation of the company as a whole to a 2 acre (0.81 ha) landscaped site housing purpose-designed fabricating and fitting shops, together with offices, warehousing and testing facilities.
In 1998 the company started a restructuring programme and, in 1999 reflecting the company's movement into other industries, the name was changed back to Casburt Limited. In the same year David Caswell's daughter, Jane Prince, was appointed Company Secretary and Peter Caswell was appointed a Director.
In 2000 a new company was formed - Casburt TMS Limited - to supply tablet press users with superior quality replacement parts. Peter Caswell was appointed Managing Director of this company.
In 2001 David Caswell went into semi-retirement and a new Managing Director of Casburt Ltd was appointed - Paul Darlington - who brought a wealth of experience of capital equipment company management.
At the end of 2003 Paul resigned to pursue a career in the service industry, having managed the Company through a period of rationalization leading to the launch of the new Technipress range of tablet presses.
Peter Caswell was appointed Managing Director in January 2004 and he commissioned an in depth evaluation of costs of manufacture across the product range. The outcome was to outsource additional tablet presses and auxiliary equipment which were added to the product portfolio. This was all consolidated into Casburt TMS Limited along with an excellent range of tablet tooling.
Reflecting the emphasis of a reduced manufacturing base, Casburt TMS relocated towards the end of 2005 to a brand new, high tech facility at Park Hall, Stoke on Trent.
Since then Casburt TMS has recruited a number of industry experts bringing a wealth of experience into the business. This has been key to our objective of establishing a business that has a very high level of product knowledge and support and delivers a professional customer driven organisation to the benefit of our clients.
Today Casburt TMS has an extensive portfolio of products and stands as a successful and growing provider of solutions to the international pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and confectionary industries.
